Tom Cruise Premieres "Valkyrie" Amidst Protests Tue, 16-Dec-2008
“Valkyrie” hits theaters nationwide this Christmas Day, December 25th, and last night Tom Cruise was in New York City at the big premiere.
The “Mission Impossible” stud donned a super-suave black suit and tie for the festivities, posing for the paparazzi before heading inside Jazz at Lincoln Center, located in the Time Warner Center.
And though the premiere was a swanky success, there were plenty of anti-Scientology protesters hoping to ruin the night. But the event location was chosen specifically to keep the naysayers at a distance.
A source close to the premier planning team told press that the choice to hold it at Jazz at Lincoln Center was made in part because it would be “more difficult to protest” as the location doesn’t allow for a big outdoor red carpet.
“[Anti-Scientology group] Anonymous picketed outside (Cruise's wife) Katie's ‘All My Sons’ premiere and ruined photos by being in the background. They didn’t want the same thing. Tom loves being with his fans, signing autographs. It’s really where he shines. He and the fans lose out this way.” |
